Looking to travel green and make new friends while you're at it? The creators of istaygreen.org have provided the best of both worlds with a social networking site that allows you to connect with other like-minded individuals and plan an environmentally-conscious vacation or business trip while you're at it. As our reader Richard Varner pointed out, it's "like Facebook, Trip Advisor and Expedia all wrapped up into one site for the eco-friendly traveler."
Site users can submit reviews of accommodations, car rental agencies and activities and what exactly makes them green, or alternatively, how the vendor could improve their eco-friendliness. The service providers are ranked on their green initiatives making it easier to determine which are worth checking out and the ones you'd be better off skipping over. The site will also be initiating a carbon offset tool in the near future for travelers compelled to offset their adventures, or if they're really ambitious, convince their employer to foot the bill as part of business travel expenses. Several groups have also been established so that users worldwide can connect over their experiences with specific destinations and gain firsthand information from those who have already (literally) traveled the same path.
Those hosting a destination wedding or looking to go on a green adventure for their honeymoon will find all kinds of resources conveniently located to make the planning process easy and convenient.
