Hiking the Australian Bicentennial National Trail may take you some time to explore; after all 5,330 kilometers may be just a tad bit longer than a day hike.
The trail stretches from Cooktown in North Queensland to Healesville in Victoria, following historic coach and stock routes, old pack horse trails and country roads. The trail aims to maintain its historic integrity by following the routes of early pioneers and displaying historic sites and artifacts. Eighteen national parks are also linked by the trail, allowing hikers to experience a diverse range of stunning scenery including tropical rainforests, mountains, valleys, remote dry plains, alpine meadows, snowfields and wilderness. The trail is ideally suited for horseback riding, walking and mountain biking, however four-wheel drive vehicles and trail bikes are prohibited in the area.
