The Dallas Farmers' Market runs year-round and is one of the largest farmers' markets of its type in the U.S.
Shoppers can visit four sheds to find a wide range of products. Shed 1 features produce grown within a 150-mile radious of Dallas, as well as food from farm merchants who buy items from other farmers in a three-state area. These merchants typically sell their own food, plus that of neighbors and friends. Shed 2 offers eateries, specialty foods and food-related products such as spices, freshly baked goods, locally pastured meat and poultry and yogurt and cheese from local dairies. Shed 3 is made of of produce dealers who sell produce that is shipped in from other states, such as cherries from Washington and avocados from Mexico. Shed 4 is for those who like shopping in bulk or purchasing food wholesale. This is where restaurants and grocery stores often visit to buy local produce to use or re-sell. Verified LOCAL Farmer signs can also be found to assist customers in identifying farmers from the area and make the process of identifying truly local products a simpler one.
Weekends also feature a handcraft fair on Satuardays and a yard sale on Sundays. Those interested in participating in either one can visit the market website (after the jump) to find the applicable handbook and application. Weekends also feature entertainment in the way of talented buskers, who will juggle, sing, dance and otherwise entertain consumers as they shop.
Special events are held throughout the year, including a Farm & Flower Festival in May, Spring into Summer in June, For Your Health in September and Holidays at the Market on various weekends throughout December. Would-be chefs can also participate in cooking classes during the peak season.
