Over the past week we've given you some ideas of how to get out and play during the winter months. One of our suggestions was to get out and play like you're a kid again. Or just as good, take your kids outdoors and let their youthful exuberance rub off on you. You can even inspire other neighborhood residents to join in.
Need inspiration? Look to some folks in northwest Pennsylvania who are holding a sledding contest on January 25 as part of their Winterfest celebration. No this isn't just some race to see who can get to the bottom of a hill first. Instead kids from the ages of five to 18 are being challenged to put their best sled forward - one made of recycled and recyclable materials that is. The organizers are challenging participants to be creative and use items at their disposal, which could include plastic containers, cardboard, old garbage cans, wood and - well, the list goes on. To keep it fair, contestants will be divided according to age categories. Trophies will be awarded in each age group for the sled the goes the furthest, the ones that uses the most recycled materials and the most creative entry.
See how easy that is? All you need is a good hill, some judges and the most creative kids you know and you've got one great community event!
