There has never been a better time to source local ingredients for a meal. This Thanksgiving, try to find locally-produced options for everything, from the vegetables you serve as side dishes to your turkey (also known as the main attraction) if you're having one. If you haven't noticed, the economy isn't doing so well and it's safe to say that local retailers will appreciate the business, especially as the holidays approach. You may even save some money since the producer won't have to add the price of shipping to the cost of their food.
If your local farmers' market is still open, pay a visit to vendors to see what types of seasonal offerings they have. Find a local butcher to see what they have for birds. You can even try to drink local by finding out if there are any wines available that were produced close to home.
Eating local is not only economically-friendly, it's the best way to green your Thanksgiving festivities!
