A self-professed "green junkie," Kristen, the woman behind Modern Eco Homes, has an appreciation for all good design - green or not-so-green - but finds she is drawn to the thought and attention to detail that goes into creating eco-conscious furniture, homes and accessories. Kristen's passion and belief that society is on the verge of being able to understand and explore sustainable living led her to establish her website and store, which she hopes will one day "become the online 'Wal-Mart' or 'Overstock' for green living." Kristen believes her "one-stop shop for all things eco-friendly" offers the best merchants available on the Internet today.
When asked what one thing she would have everyone change in their homes if she could, Kristen responded:
"There are a few things I would consider, many of which I am still guilty of. I think if I had to choose one thing, it would be to recycle, or reuse what you already have before heading out to replace it with something entirely new. There are so many great ways we can transform, recycle and re-create furniture, objects, even garbage into creative and artist re-uses. All it takes is a little love for the "DIY" mentality and a bit of creative imagination. I have seen some great old pieces of dusty unused furniture turned into new, funky, functional tables and storage units. Look online to see how you can re-use that old 1970's three-foot tall stereo speaker. You'll be amazed at what you can come up with."
Among her favorite products on the site, Kristen lists the Misprint Tea & Spice Chest and the Misprint Magazine Rack. The Misprint products are made from recycled tin cans, proving it is possible to find creative ways to reinvent waste to make artistic pieces of furniture and accessories.
