Philippine Urban Water Shortage
Eight major cities in the Philippines including Manila can no longer support their populations water needs with local water supplies. Recently they’ve had to draw water from surrounding rural areas to satisfy urban needs. Ramon Alikpala, of the National Water Resources Board calls this ‘water stress’ but with the urban populations growing, proper management strategies will have to be instated and monitored to avoid a water crisis.
Despite Global Warming, Antarctic Sea Ice is Increasing?
According to Ted Maksym, a sea ice expert, this was expected. The Antarctic warms much slower than the arctic because warm water currents travel to the arctic bringing warm air and more melting.
North Wales Issues a Boil Tap Water Alert
Nine people caught stomach bugs from tap water last week causing the third water warning in three years. Two of the nine people have cryptosporidiosis, a water bourne disease.
Studies Continue to find Drugs in American Water Supplies
Reno and Colorado Springs have been added to the list of water supplies containing traces of pharmaceuticals. Many cites still haven’t done the test so the numbers are likely to climb. The amounts are small enough that it is not an immediate threat to health.
