This past weekend I practiced some of what I've been preaching and headed to my local farmers' market. Unfortunately it had to be a short trip, however Mr. Pinky Bean was able to find the perfect size cucumbers, as well as dill and garlic to make pickles and I was able to pick up a few vegetables for the week.
In terms of plans for the produce purchased that day, the pickles were by far the most labor-intensive project undertaken and that show was run by the mister (which involved an emergency run for more vinegar and a brief fear of running out of dill).
The peas and carrots have been a fantastic addition to the daily lunch mix (there is almost nothing better than fresh-from-the-farm carrots) and the potatoes will be used with some leftover carrots for dinner this week, cooked on the grill.
This upcoming weekend will hopefully see a more leisurely trip to the market with some fresh fruit purchased for general consumption and even better, freezer jam!
