All we need is pasta and a little basil

Posted by Leafy Green on August 19, 2008 6:07 AM Filed Under: Food, Gardening

So maybe you're new to the whole gardening thing.  Or maybe you like the idea of growing some of your own food but you don't have the space or resources for a potting shed, proper garden and all of the wonderful tools and gizmos that go with it.  Well here is a great way to start turning your thumb green and all you need is a bucket and some patience!

Heirloom Tomato Garden in a Pail from Organic Style is such a cool idea.  For $50 you get a bucket, gloves and all the stuff you need to grow heirloom tomatoes.  Since it's portable, you can put in outside to soak up the sun and bring it in whenever the weather is unfavorable.

In terms of care and expertise required if a Chia Instant Herb Garden is equivalent to Sea-Monkeys and a full-blown backyard vegetable garden is equivalent to those fancy saltwater setups you see at the pet store, looking after a bucket of tomatoes is the rough equivalent to owning a goldfish in a bowl.  You can't neglect them or they'll die, but unless they get infested with bugs or something you should be able to enjoy them for quite some time.

Hit the jump to check out the kit at Organic Style or why not grab an old container and go talk to the folks at your local garden center?  They can help you put together your own tomato kit.

Any other bucket gardeners out there?  Any tips?
