Lucky the Australian koala bear actually seems more like a cat with nine lives after he escaped for a horrific accident with relatively minor injuries. He's being called the country's luckiest marsupial, hence the nickname.
Lucky was hit by a car traveling at 60 miles per hour and then dragged for seven miles with his head stuck in the car's grill. The bear managed to hang on with one arm and his trapped head until the driver finally stopped the vehicle after being flagged down. Household scissors were then used to cut the mesh grill and free the shaken animal. Miraculously within hours, the bear was almost as good as new, though he will be spending the next month-and-a-half in an animal hospital established by the late Steve Irwin to recover from an infection and the trauma of the accident.
Lucky's full name is Ely 'Lucky' Grills, named after Australian actor and comedian Leo 'Lucky' Grills.
