The Fiat 500 1.2 Pop was named the most eco-friendly vehicle in the Green Supermini category at the What Car? Green Awards held at the British International Auto Show. This isn't the first time the car has been recognized for it's eco-friendliness: it has also been named Car of the Year 2008, CAR Magazine Car of the Year, Fifth Gear SmallCar of the Year, EuroCarBody 2007 and Auto Europa 2008.
The Fiat 500 is sold in New Zealand has three low-emissions engines to choose from: 69 bhp 1.2-litre, 100 bhp 1.4-litre petrol, or 75 bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel and be ordered in different trim levels: Pop, Sport and Lounge.
The awards honor the UK's most economical and eco-friendly cars and editor-in-chief of What Car? Steve Fowler believes the Fiat 500 meets all the requirements that make it an excellent choice as this year's top honor.
“The Fiat 500 is the perfect green city car, " he said. It’s small, chic and, with an efficient petrol engine, it’s low on CO2 and equally harmful local pollutants.”
Meanwhile, the Mini was seen hanging its head in shame...
