Now that we've covered some camping tips for you and your family, it's time to consider what you need to ensure your four-legged friends have a safe and enjoyable vacation as well.
First, make sure your pal will always be well-hydrated since a combination of consistent activity and warm temperatures can leave them panting and in need of water. The REI Adventure Dog Water Bowl is reusable, collapsible and easily portable, all necessary requirements when you're on the go. A molded bottom panel will help keep it from tipping on uneven ground or when your dog excitedly pounces on it in a thirsty frenzy.
If you'll be spending significant time in or near water make sure your pet is also adequately protected with the Premier Xtreme Fido Float. Yes it's true, they actually make life jackets for dogs now. This one features a U-shape to keep your dog's head above water, while a zippered opening that runs from collar to tail makes it easy to get on and off, which you know is a very good thing if you've ever tried to wrestle a dog sweater over the head of a squirming Terrier.
Ensure your dog sleeps as well as you do with its own sleeping bag and tent. The Coleman Mountaineer Dog Tent gives literal meaning to the term "pup tent." The shelter, which comes in sizes for small to large dogs, offers protection from the wind, while a waterproof floor will keep them dry in the event of rain. Coleman also has their Hibernation™ Sleeping Bag for Dogs also in various sizes, which is pretty much exactly as the name suggests. ComfortSmart™ Technology and Warm ThermoTech™ insulation will ensure a warm and comfortable night's sleep.
Finally, in a worst-case scenario that has you facing a Fido-related emergency, be sure to carry a copy of veterinarian Bruce Fogle's book, First Aid for Dogs, which includes flow charts and sketches on topics such as wound cleansing to CPR. Tips for rock-paper-scissors or other methods deciding who gives the dog CPR not included.
