They participate in illicit activities during the nighttime hours and the law considers their work "criminal damage" in some parts of the world, but guerilla gardeners are cropping up everywhere and putting their shovels and and green thumbs to good use.
Four years ago, Richard Reynolds began blogging about his habit of taking control of neglected public land where he lives in London, England and turning the spaces into a flourishing flowers or vegetables. Richard discovered he wasn't alone; in fact approximately 4,000 others have signed up on his Guerilla Gardening website. The website is a place where these stealth gardeners can share ideas, tips and photos of the various projects they secretly carry out as they strive to beautify the world around them.
Richard has also written a book titled "On Guerilla Gardening," where he shares the history of the initiative, as well as tips and advice for other would-be illegal gardeners.
