If you plan to go under - way down under - for a getaway this summer, consider the Novotel Sydney Olympic Park hotel for your accommodations. While they may not be as green as some of the other hotels we featured, they at least feature some eco-friendly initiatives that show promise. Though they may be taking baby steps, at least they are steps in the right direction.
What makes it green: The hotel recycling program offers a place other than your garbage can for disposable items, however they aim to avoid the necessity of recycling in the first place by using re-usable items such as cups, plates and silverware. The hotel also has water conservation methods in place, as well as a fresh-air exchange system. Because the hotel is located in the heart of Sydney Olympic Park over 640 hectares of parkland surround the facility with 20 kilometers of walking tracks nearby. Public transportation is located close to the hotel so you can skip the car when traveling to certain destinations.
Additional amenities: The Arena Wine Bar and The Brewery are both located onsite to rehydrate you after a long day on your feet. Even though you won't want to spend your days parked in front of the television, video games are available to distract certain family members if you need a sanity break. Family rooms are also available if having a relaxing vacation means separating the kids.
Green rating: 2 out of 5 branches
