The Moss Street Market in Victoria, British Columbia started in 1991 and recently opened for their full summer season. Local residents set up on the Sir James Douglas School grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday, It is the longest-running community farmers' market in Victoria and is a true reflection of the laid-back and relaxed lifestyle the island is known for.
You'll find the traditional farmers' market fare at Moss Street: organic fruits and vegetables, homemade baking, canned produce and preserves, as well as crafts made by locals. Of course, you can also find locally-produced honey there as well. Kids will enjoy special entertainment and face-painting while their parents shop and socialize to the sound of live music. The market is run by volunteers who are responsible for making signs, advertising, organizing special events and entertainment, administration and equipment maintenance. Near the beginning to middle of September each year, the market features a Green Technology Day, while other special events include Home & Native Plant Day, Kid's Day, a holiday fair each year close to Christmas and Harvest Day, the day last full day the market is open for the regular season.
