Eliminate your use of plastic with Fizbags

Posted by Pinky Bean on May 22, 2008 8:22 AM Filed Under: Shopping

If you haven't yet heard using plastic bags is sooo 2003. It seems every retailer you shop at these days offers some form of reusable bags which is a fantastic concept - if you actually remember to reuse them. Often times they get left at home or in the trunk of your car and by the time you finally remember them, it's far too late to retrieve them. That's why it's super-convenient to have a reusable bag (or two or three) small enough to keep with you at all times. Enter Fizbags.

While it may seem kind of ironic to keep a bag in your bag when was the last time you were able to fit a carton of milk, a loaf of bread and a bag of apples into your purse or briefcase? It's probably safe to assume that's a rare occurence. Fizbags have a "bag in a pouch" design making them extremely compact so you can toss it in your purse, your pocket or attach one to your keychain. They are also one-third larger than an average plastic bag, extremely durable (hey four liters of milk gets pretty heavy!) and machine washable.

Amanda Overland, the creator of Fizbags, is a busy mother of four who was inspired to design the compact reusable bags based on her own experiences.

"I started feeling really guilty about the number of plastic carrier bags I was throwing away. I kept them in a drawer with the intention of re-using them, then after a few weeks I'd just throw them in the bin because there were too many. I then started seeing images of wildlife and birds being tangled up and sometimes swallowing plastic bags. I knew we had to ban plastic carrier bags but for this to happen we needed to have a PRACTICAL bag for life.

I found the problem with the big shopping bags was that I had to plan ahead, and I wasn't going to carry an armful of huge bags around with me just in case I bought something! I always left them in the boot of the car or at home. Reusable bags have to be minimum hassle when you are busy with day to day life!

Now, I keep 3 Fizbags in my handbag at all times and don't even notice they're there. I haven't used a plastic bag since."
