As the cost of gas goes up (and up and up), it may be having a positive impact on the environment. More drivers are currently putting the SUVs in their garages (or trading them in!) in favor of older, more fuel efficient cars. Honda and Toyota's manufactured a decade or two ago seem to be the most popular choices.
The only catch is that air quality groups warn older vehicles may be prone to more leakage and evaporative emissions, so a tune-up will likely be necessary. However given the cost of gas in a bigger vehicle over time, the initial cost to fix-up an older car is increasingly becoming a more appealing option.
