In our land of obesity, drive-thru windows and half-pound Spicy Baconator cheeseburgers it's easy to understand how we can lose sight of or ignore the Global Food Crisis that is happening around the world right now. At this very moment not only are there countless people starving to death, but there are countless more who are fighting for food.
In Haiti people are taking to the streets in violent food riots. Most Haitians struggle to survive on $2 a day and the rising cost of food has resulted in emergency food shortages. And of course, the U.S. Coast Guard is on watch to ensure that none of these starving people make it to American shores.
India faces a similar situation. Most of the county's 600 million agriculture workers survive on less than $2 a day and India's "progress" has resulted in record-high inflation which, combined with rising costs of food imports, is leaving millions to subsist on what little they can afford.
There's more: Kenya, Egypt, Iraq, China, Indonesia and even bountiful Brazil are all in crisis. Don't ignore this problem. Hit the jump to read the full article on ABC News which contains a link to the World Food Programme where you can learn more about what you can do to help.
