It's hard to believe that it was last October when I first posted on the documentary King Corn. The movie played in a limited theatrical release last year, so a lot of people might have missed out on seeing this film. Well, now it's available on DVD so you can either rent it or pick one up from your favorite online retailer.
This is a movie about food, the politics of food, and the changing landscape of farming in America. The premise is two college buddies go back to their farming roots and attempt to grow a single acre of corn. As we follow their journey we learn about how farming has changed over the last 80 years and about the complex system that regulates every aspect of the production and processing of this staple crop.
The reviews of King Corn have been overwhelmingly positive, and you owe it to yourself to watch this movie and draw your own conclusions. Like any modern documentary it may contain a bit of sensationalism and finger-wagging, but so what? It's enteraining, educational, and when you're done you'll be 100% more knowledgeable about your empty bowl of popcorn when the closing credits roll.
