The USDA announced a class II recall of 406,000 pounds of cow heads released nationwide by a Kansas firm on April 4th. A class II recall, suggests a remote possibility of ‘adverse health consequences’ from the product use.
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service cow tonsils are considered a Specific Risk Material because the tissue can contain infective agents associated with BSE. The Kansas firm had failed to remove the tonsils from any cow heads packaged before Mar 28th. I guess the tonsil guy must have taken a holiday.
A couple questions, how are we consuming cow heads, fast food burgers or hotdogs? Wouldn’t the tonsils have been removed before consumption anyway or do they just grind the whole thing up? If they do grind it up, wouldn’t it be more efficient to grind and then ship?
