First Greenpeace waged a war on Japanese whalers and then came Heathrow Airport. Now the organization has set their sights on Unilever, the manufacturers behind the Dove beauty brand. Unilever's crime? Their palm oil suppliers are responsible for destroying the Indonesian rainforest and with it, various species that live there.
Greenpeace offers proof with their "Burning up Borneo" report that was released this month and outlines the forest destruction in the region. Unilever is the largest single user of palm oil in the country and has claimed to be an environmentally responsible company. Greenpeace isn't asking for an all-out boycott of Unilever brands, but instead are encouraging fellow environmentalists to put the pressure on Unilever to stop purchasing palm oil from the suppliers in question. Greenpeace says that the company is "more sensitive to public exposure and debate than a consumer boycott."
