Spring cleaning doesn't just apply to your basement and your closet. Now is a great time to take inventory of your beauty arsenal and start assessing what you actually need and what you may be able to find alternate uses for. The writer of the Almost Natural Beauty blog has some great ideas to help you get started while keeping your your unused products and containers out of landfills in the process.
The key point in the Green Movement is to use less of the earth’s resources and to waste less. You know the three R’s, Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle. So how can you use that with your beauty products? Let’s examine the three R’s:
1) Reduce: A great way to start reducing is to use up what you already have, by doing that you are buying less product to put in your already large graveyard of beauty products under the sink. (You know what I’m talking about.) (If you really can use up what you have see step 3 for a way to recycle beauty products.)You can also reduce your product consumption by using one product for multiple uses. Like your hair conditioner can double as a shaving cream, night cream can double as an eye cream; try to think of other ways to use the products you have.
2) Reuse: Ok this might be a bit tricky with beauty products, but you can find a way to re-use your empty bottle and jars, like use for pill holders, bead holders, ect . If you have any good ideas on reusing beauty products containers please leave a comment.
3) Recycle: This should be pretty self explanatory, but check to see if you can recycle your empty beauty product containers. (Check out the Back to M·A·C Program 6 empty MAC container gets you a free lipstick.) If you still have product left that you just can’t bring your self to use then consider swapping it on sites the MakeupAlley.com or giving it away on sites like FreeCycle.org or craigslist.com.
