As we discussed last week, over 500 people attended The International Conference on Climate Change to discuss their views on climate change. One particular opinion on the matter that seemed to hold true among most of those in attendance is they do not believe human activity is responsible for global warming, however they do not dispute the fact that warming is occurring.
Hit the jump to watch some attendees and speakers discuss the way most nay-sayers are viewed in mainstream media, including:
- Robert Balling, a climatology professor at Arizona State University believes the conference was the first occasion where hundreds of prominent scientists from institutions such as Harvard and Stanford gathered together and were outspoken in their argument against global warming. He says that often times at meetings, critics are marginalized and their voices are drowned out.
- Stan Goldenberg, a meteorologist at the Hurricane Research Division in Miami, spoke at the conference says much of the opposition to the concept of human-driven climate change are prestigious scientists with impressive credentials as opposed to "flakes" and "nobodies" as if often assumed. On an interesting side note, one of the tasks in Stan's job description is riding on planes that fly into hurricanes. Can you still receive life insurance with that type of occupation?
- University of Alabama climatologist Roy Spencer claims the computer models used to predict future warming patterns are flawed. "So now hopefully you know that there's actually some real scientists publishing some real data that aren't saying we're all going to burn up in the near future." Spencer's research has been published in a peer-reviewed journal however no mainstream media outlets have contacted him for interviews.
- On that note, ABC news correspondent John Stossel apologized on behalf of the mainstream media he is a part of for ignoring the contradicting research, saying, "We're not all evil, we just are dumb." He encouraged the scientists to get "through that dumb layer" and commended those who try to educate the media on the new findings.
- Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus even went as far to liken to the early days of communism, with global warming alarmists attempting to control people's lives. "The climate alarmists believe in their own omnipotency. They believe in knowing more than millions of rationally behaving men and women, what is right or wrong."
