Now that the snow is finally melting and your grass is about to turn green (or maybe had already started to!), the questions remains as to when your lawn will be ready for mowing for the first time this season. Every weekend almost 60 million Americans mow their lawns, which leads to over 800 million gallons of gasoline being burned each year. Running your gas-powered lawn mower creates the same amount of air pollution as driving your car 300 miles. That's a whole lot of carbon dioxide being pumped into the air!
Watch the video below to learn how to make mowing your lawn a relatively green activity. Yes, it will take a little more effort to use that push mower, but just think of all the health benefits you'll reap from using a bit of elbow grease. A gas-powered weed whacker is equally, if not more detrimental than a lawn mower, so switching to an electric-powered one is the more environmentally friendly option. You'll even save money on the gas you would normally use to run your mower and weed trimmer. Just think, you can use your savings to reward yourself with a nice cold (organic) beer or margarita once you're finished!
