Hyundai is the latest vehicle manufacturer to join the green car race with their HED-5 "i-Mode" concept car, one of 15 new models officially introduced at the Geneva auto show.
The i-Mode is being marketed as a crossover utility vehicle and uses the company's new 2.2-liter engine and a lighter metal used in the body, as well as glass subsititutes for an overall improvement in fuel efficiency and emissions. The 'Swivel Seat' technology will now allow annoyed parents to turn 180 degrees and lecture their children in the back seats face-to-face (which is not recommended while trying to change lanes). Those who enjoy setting up office in their vehicles will be thrilled with the on-board network, cable-free keyboards and integrated touch-screen displays which provide access to games, movies, video calling and the web (again, not recommended while actually driving).
Korean car manufacturers are aiming to keep pace with other countries who are introducing an increasing number of greener vehicle options for the concerned driver.
"The i-Mode is designed to woo European customers in the family-car market," said Thomas Burkle, Hyundai’s chief designer in Europe, in a statement.
