Demonstrating just how great the potential for wind power is, 3Tier - a renwable energy company - has developed a map showing global wind resources.
The Firstlook map provides data that was collected over the course of a year of wind at 80 meters high over an area of 15 kilometers. The data shows that there is a wind speed of more than six meters per second for over 40 per cent of the earth's land mass. The creators of the map believe it can assist in the implentation of wind-generated electricity in developing nations, and point out this is the first time information of this type is available for free.
The map was unveiled this week at the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference 2008. Hit the jump to visit 3Tier's Firstlook website for more information and to try out the map for yourself.
