The best socks on (and for) the planet?

Posted by Pinky Bean on February 18, 2008 3:19 AM Filed Under: Clothes

Teko claims their socks are the best on and for the planet. The company is committed to having the lowest impact on the environment as possible and strives to ensure their business practices are reflective of this goal.

Teko uses Ecopoly, 100 percent recycled polyester that is proven to keep feet drier due to better moisture transfer, as opposed to less effective, more toxic materials. The sock materials include EcoMerino wool, organic cotton and ecopoly, and the wide range of styles accommodate any lifestyle need whether it is skiing, hiking or a thin crew sock for work. Furthermore, low-impact, environmentally-friendly dyes are utilized and do no contain allergens, carcinogens, heavy metals or formaldehyde. Teko wanted to ensure their product was durable and would meet the demands of an active lifestyle. Test subjects wore the socks hiking, running and cycling, with one tester even wearing them for three weeks straight without washing (which we do not recommend for the sake of your family members, co-workers and friends). In order to ensure maximum customer satisfaction, the company offers a one-year guarantee on all of their socks.

Teko offsets their energy impact by using American Wind electrical power and supporting organizations and projects such as Leave No Trace, The Conservation Alliance, and cityWild. Their sock packaging is even made with 100 per cent reycled material.

Leafy Green's Tip of the Day Bigger isn't always better, especially when it comes to refrigerators. Many items we stick in our fridges can actually be kept in a cool panty or cellar instead. Also ask yourself: do you really need room in your freezer to store twenty frozen pizzas at a time? If you buy fresh foods regularly you'll find you can come to rely less on keeping your foodstuffs on ice for weeks on end.
