Well there you have it, the reason the Northern hairy-nosed Wombat doesn't appeal to conservationists can probably be traced back to its less than flattering name.
This creature made the Zoological Society of London's list of cosmetically challenged species because of it's wide, flat muzzle and dark patches around the eyes. Poor guys, I'd probably looks as though I hadn't slept in days either if I had to deal with the daily ritual of people taunting me just because I had the words "hairy" and "nose" in my title.
However this wombat's population is no joking matter; the species is listed as critically endangered with only about 100 of them left, where they all live in a fenced colony in Australia. The introduction of the dingo, as well as losing their habitats to farming, have left a severely dwindling population.
