What do you get you put Salma Hayek, Adrian Grenier, Oliver Stone, Michelle Branch and Bill Maher in one big room? Last night it equated to one rockin' eco party that raised $420,000 for environmental causes.
The pre-Academy Awards bash was hosted by Global Green and besides a line-up of celebrities, also featured environmentally-conscious furniture and lighting, as well as organic cocktails. On the green carpet, Global Green board member Hayek spoke of her increased awareness of environmental issues since giving birth last year to daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault last year.
"I get a bigger fear of what kind of world she's going to live in. Is she going to run out of water? What kind of water is she going to drink?" the 41-year-old actress and producer said on her way into the party. "It's really scary and it's not that far away if we don't do something about it."
This year's Academy Awards ceremony, set to take place this Sunday, February 24, will once again feature Global Green's Red Carpet/Green Cars campaign in which celebrities abandon their traditional limos and instead arrive in fuel-efficient vehicles. Past participants of the campaign include Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron, Tom Hanks and Susan Sarandon. At Wednesday night's soirée, Tate Donovan (Jennifer Aniston's ex) upped the initiative a level and arrived on his bike.
Global Green is the brainchild of Mikhail Gorbachev, who started the group in 1993. The group is also the organization Brad Pitt is working with to build eco-friendly housing in New Orleans.
Click on the video below to see some of the celebrity attendees offer their tips for green living (including Bill Maher's suggestion to keep your cows from farting and releasing emissions).
