How Britney Spears can be better for the environment

Posted by Pinky Bean on January 11, 2008 1:32 PM Filed Under: Life

Although I don't feel any remorse for criticizing Britney Spears' abysmal eco habits this past week, I do feel the responsibility to point out the rare good things she does for the environment, as well as offer her some further tips to become more eco friendly (and sanitary!). After all, with so much media attention constantly focused on her, Britney certainly has the ability - and the audience - to be a good influence. Here are some of the ways Britney demonstrates her environmental awareness and suggestions to take them to a new level:

She doesn't waste underwear
Rather than spending ridiculous amounts of money like many other starlets on frivolous undergarments that will one day end up in a landfull (or on eBay), Britney often eschews the idea of underwear altogether, choosing instead to go commando. In fact, if I recall correctly, Britney decided to forgo the traditional promotional tactics for her last album and let her crotch conduct most of the publicity for it.
Green suggestion: Now that the public is as familiar with Britney's hoo-haw as her gynecologist, perhaps she could invest in some organic underwear (hit the jump below to see one option from bgreen) and give our poor eyes a rest.

She doesn't waste footwear
There have been several instances where photographers have caught Britney wandering around barefoot, most notably while entering or leaving public restrooms.
Green suggestion: While I admire Britney's committment to abstain from wearing shoes that aren't sustainable, she is still at risk of potential disease from her lack of footwear. Instead, she could try these Patagonia flats, or better yet, give Michael Jordan a call to see if he could hook her up with a pair of his new green Air Jordan basketball shoes.

She doesn't waste gas
Well actually, as I pointed out earlier this week, she does use a fair amount of gas (as do the photographers who follow her every move), but at least prioritizes her commitments and reduces fossil fuel emissions when possible. While making roughly a dozen trips to Starbucks a day guzzles gas faster than Britney does her Frappucinos, she will stay inside and conserve fuel on the days she is scheduled to appear at custody hearings and mandatory depositions.
Green suggestion: Carpool to court appointments with Kevin Federline and his lawyer.
