Green Babies, Sage Moms

Posted by Pinky Bean on January 17, 2008 8:17 AM Filed Under: Life

Lynda Fassa is a former model and founder of Green Babies, an organic clothing compan for tots. Now's she's written Green Babies, Sage Moms, a guide to raising a green family, starting with the early stages of pregnancy. In the most recent issue of People magazine, Linda offered some tips including:

Ban the Bug Spray - Studies show insecticides raise kids' chances of childhood cancers. So don't use them inside or out.

Use Natural Cleaners - You can get green cleaning stuff from Method, Seventh Generation and others. It's not more expensive, and it does clean as well. Or try baking soda and vinegar - it cleans everything. And your kitchen only smells like a Nicoise salad until it dries!

Remeber that what you put on, you put in - Your skin absorbs what you put on it, so avoid synthetic fragrance in lotions and soaps. If you like lavendar or lemon you're in luck.

Opt for certified organic food whenever possible - It's really expensive, so if you can't afford it all the time choose two or three foods your kid eats the most of and buy organic versions of those.

Click the link to purchase Linda's book for more tips for raising green kids including safe ways to ready your house for a baby, organic recipes for breastfeeding moms, tips for throwing an eco friendly baby shower and solutions for the safe storage of breast milk.

Leafy Green's Tip of the Day Do you have any idea what's in that gel scented candle of plug-in air freshener? It takes hundred of chemicals to replicate the fragrance of 'spring breeze' in your living room. Potpourri, fresh flowers and fresh baked cinnamon buns can make your home more fragrant without the chemicals. (Besides, if your house really stinks that bad maybe you should open a window...)
