So you've made a resolution to start working out. If you're a novice to this concept, the choices can be overwhelming. Cardio (running), weight training, stretching (yoga). How are you to choose? Many experts have an opinion on the best ways to work out. The best type of exercise for you depends on the results you are looking for. For example, if you want to lose weight, you'll need to burn fat and cardiovascular activity is essential to this goal. Yoga will help you tone, but a paunchy belly can't be eliminated without that fat-burning cardio.
Despite countless options, experts do seem to agree on one thing: no matter your weight loss or fitness goals, every person should try to get a half-hour of physical activity a minimum of five times per week. A half-hour doesn't seem so intimidating. That could mean a nice walk after dinner or a half-hour run. It can be yoga class, a bike ride, lifting weights, whatever you choose.
If you aren't sure you're ready to make a commitment to the gym just yet, hit this jump to see a half-hour outdoor workout that doesn't require any formal workout equipment other than a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothing. This will get your heart rate up while focusing on major muscle groups including quads, calves and your core. Plus the outdoor factor will get you out of the house and provide some much-needed and oft-neglected fresh air during winter months.
