David Beckham is killing the environment one endorsement deal at a time. Soccer America daily and Carbon Trust - a British environmental group - have team up to prove the richer and more successful Beckham becomes, the more detrimental he is to the earth. The average human produces 9.4 tons of carbon dioxide on an annual basis; Beckahm produces 163 tons. I'm sure I don't have to do the math for you to point out just how much higher his number is.
This new information has led to the not-so-prestigious honor of being labelled the world's worst offender when it comes to carbon emissions. A variety of facts demonstrate that Beckham's carbon footrprint may be the largest in human history. The evidence includes Beckham's air travel habits due to soccer matches and endorsement deals (he traveled more miles than a trip frome earth to the moon last year), as well as his collection of homes and vehicles, which include a Porsche, a Hummer and a Lincoln Navigator.
"He should use his celebrity status to make people aware of the damage that traveling can cause to the planet," a Carbon Trust spokesman said, according to the report. "With all his money he should be using it at least to reduce his own footprint. He has more freedom of choice when it comes to methods of traveling. He could also choose greener cars."
I've never had millions and millions of dollars before so I suppose I can't understand the need (or the ability) to have several vehicles to accommodate my moods on any given day. What if the thought of driving the Navigator is enough to make David not want to get out of bed in the morning? Well thankfully for the legions of soccer fans out here, he has several options to motivate him to face the world. What a true and noble hero David Beckham is to hold his head high when facing such adversity.
