In early October Ecollo was just getting off the ground and starting to build an audience when I received a link to an article from CareBear about the plight facing orangutans in Indonesia.
The thing is with these news articles that take place in a far-off land is that there is next to nothing we can do about it. And that's what got me so excited about this article.
See, the orangutans are in danger becuase their forest is being destroyed. -> Their forest is being destoyed to create plantations to produce palm oil. -> Nearly all that palm oil is exported for use in products in our grocery stores. -> So if we stop buying stuff with palm oil we can help save the organutans, right?
A problem in a distant land that we can affect by simply changing our shopping habits and reading a few labels... how can we not be a part of the solution?
Only a few hundred people read this article back in October. A few thousand of you are reading this right now. Please hit the jump to learn more about the problems facing wild orangutans and how you can help by avoiding palm oil.
