Whole Foods Market will phase out the use of disposable plastic bags by April 22 to coincide with Earth Day.
The 270 stores located in the U.S., Canada and the UK are encouraging customers to bring their own bags when they go grocery shopping, whether the bags be paper, plastic or fabric. Backpacks and woven baskets are also options, and the store will offer a refund of five cents per re-used bag. Customers who forget to bring their own or need to stock up on a supply of reusable bags can purchase the "Better Bag,"made from recycled plastic bottles and available at the stores for 99 cents. Whole Foods is also encouraging those who don't care to reuse their bags to choose the 100 per cent recycled and recyclable option available.
You can also look for reusable bags such as this cute option I wrote about at the beginning of the month.
Visit Whole Foods' website to learn more about their committment to end the use of disposable plastic grocery bags.
