Without ever seeing one of his movies, I had convinced myself I was not a fan of Will Ferrell. That was until one fateful night in the Christmas season of 2003, when I was dragged (nearly kicking and screaming) to see Elf. And thus began a long-standing crush on the Saturday Night Live alum, whose over-the-top antics make for some wickedly funny moments in this film.
Ferrell plays Buddy, an orphan who makes his way into Santa's gift sack one Christmas and ends up being raised an an elf by the man in red himself. Once he reaches adulthood and becomes cognizant of the fact that he is a little different from the rest of the elves, Buddy sets out to New York to find his birth father, who he learns is on Santa's naughty list. However, as he soon discovers, the Big Apple and the father he's never known are a far cry from the innocent existence he's become accustomed to at the North Pole.
