Local gift idea: Wine

Posted by Pinky Bean on December 20, 2007 7:22 AM Filed Under: Gifts, Shopping

If you're a last minute gift shopper, the bad news is, your deadline to order from most online retailers was yesterday. The good news is you can still find creative gift ideas available in your area.

Check out the Local Wine Events website to find upcoming food and drink events in your area. Gifts such as tickets to a wine, beer or spirit tasting or a cooking class for the connoisseur in your life are thoughtful, and as an added bonus, you can buy a ticket for yourself as well and enjoy the experience with a significant other, friend or family member.

You can also check this wine finder to search for the perfect wine according to specifications such as country or region, wine style, grape and vintage. Narrow it down to a few and contact your local store to learn if they carry the wines you have selected. And don't be afraid to ask the experts at these shops for recommendations of locally made wines, which will also allow you to support vineyards in the area.

For the adventurous wine-lover, purchase a do-it-yourself wine kit at your local retailer and let them experiment and come up with something totally unique.

Good article! Often we forget that "eat local" isn't just about buying turnips at the farmer's market. It's about local wines, cheese, seafood and so much more.

One thing about Christmas time is that many wineries will have fantastic gift baskets available that not only include their wine but also other local fare such as jams and fruit preserves.

It is not appropriate and good to use children in advertisements, especially such as these that show them drinking Wine!

özür dilerim ilgimi çekti ama ingilizcem olmadigi için yorum yapmiyorum

senol, I did my best to translate turkish to english and this is what I got: "apology dilerim interest çekti but ingilizcem unprecedented in commentary yapmiyorum"

Not much to go on, but I imagine you're either cheesed over the baby picture or the commentary thread that follows.

First, the article is about buying local wines and supporting local wineries - don't let the picture distract you from this excellent eco-friendly tip.

Second, notice that the wine glass is empty and the bottle is clearly not open. It's obviously a gag photo taken by some probably very loving parents. I have no idea where Pinky Bean found the picture, but I'm sure her intent was not to encourage underage drinking.

Still, thanks for your input and please rest assured that our intent is to entertain, not offend. Smile

I wish I could find a better language translator out there so I could understand what you said, but maybe some secrets are best left undiscovered.

Now, for your enjoyment, here is a link to a cartoon of two sheep drinking wine, enjoy! http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/jdo0724l.jpg

Leafy Green's Tip of the Day Think global, drink local! When it comes to wine, there are a lot of fantastic varieties that are closer to home than you might think. It's fun to buy wine from the farthest reaches of the earth, but think of all of the fuel and energy it took to ship that bottle halfway around the planet. Take an adventure and visit a local winery. You're bound to be pleasantly surprised.
