Change the World: Build a Piggy Bungalow for $175

Posted by Leafy Green on December 4, 2007 2:24 PM Filed Under: Gifts, Shopping

This gift is a little pricier than some of the other we've featured on here recently, and for $175 you're may not change the whole world but you will make one pot-bellied pig much, much happier.

See, pot-bellied pigs originate from Southeast Asia where it's very warm and they don't cope well with typical conditions in North America.  The Best Friends Animal Society looks after all kinds of injured wild animals and discarded pets and they have a number of potbellied piggies that are in need of a cozy, insulated bungalow to help protect them from the cold.

So as you sit in your warm home or office, bundled in a sweater, sipping your hot cappucino while you bask in the warmth of you computer monitor just think of the poor little piggies shivering with their little pot bellies dragging in the cold mud and snow.  Then try not to think about how good the bacon was on the breakfast sandwich you ate last Saturday.  Feel guilty?  If so, hit the jump.

Leafy Green's Tip of the Day Pressure cookers use 50 - 75% less energy than cooking in a normal saucepan, plus they cook food faster! Pressure cookers used to be really popular in the 70's and 80's for their convenience, but were quickly replaced by the microwave. Maybe it's time to bring this ultra-efficient cooking method back into fashion?
