GM wants you to live green by going yellow

Posted by Leafy Green on November 14, 2007 3:38 AM Filed Under: Technology, Transportation

General Motors wants you to know that you that they have several vehicles that can run on E85, the new high-ethanol blended gasoline.  E85 is 85% ethanol, and the primary source of that ethanol is extraction from locally-grown crops like corn.

If you hit the jump you can play an online game where you choose a Chevrolet vehicle, fill it up with E85 and then race through a farmer's field filled with puddles and giant chickens.  As you race around the track you can see how much fuel you're using and when you cross the finish line they tell you how much fuel you saved.

The game is kind of lame-o, but it gets the message across and help bring attention to E85 as an alternative fuel that can already be used is a wide range of existing vehicles.

While I totally support developing good ways to protect our environment, going yellow seems like bullshit. Yes, it's healthier, it's cleaner, but we are trying to clean air movement going here and not too many people are gonna be thrilled with their new gas bill(ethanol). You will use twice as much fuel because it's density is a lot lower than regular gasoline and results in your fuel intake. How do we know it's not just a ploy to make more money off of the American people once again?
