Change the World: Adopt 15 acres of wildlife habitat for $30

Posted by Leafy Green on November 29, 2007 5:44 PM Filed Under: Gifts, Shopping

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most spectacular parks in the world.  Yet just outside the park boundaries are ranchers who are highly protective of their sheep and cattle.  Every year wild animals venture onto these ranches where they are captured and destroyed.

The National Wildlife Federation has an opportunity to purchase grazing priveleges on 4 allotments next to Yellowstone.  For just $30 you can adopt 15 acres to help create a safe zone between the park and the ranchers.

Yogi Bear and Boo-boo Bear would be proud.

First let me say that I am a very eco-concious person. However, please try to remember that it is very often the agricultural community (i.e. ranchers) who are most concerned with preserving the land & its wildlife.
Please don't thoughtlessly take away someone's livelihood.

I hear your concerns Rena. I work in Agriculture and understand the challenges that agricultural producers and ranchers must endure and witness their commitments to sustain local ecosystems. I also live near to the Rocky Mountains and have seen the impact urban and acreage expansion has on the local wildlife. It takes extraordinary efforts to sustain our natural environment when our lifestyles encroach upon these pristine areas.

A good friend taught me to speak for the animals ....because they cannot speak for themselves. It is man that has approached upon their natural world not the opposite. We need to live together and give a little extra to those that cannot defend themselves....we are of course the more intelligent species so this is our duty!
