Baby Mattea was born this on April 24, 2007. Her mom Crystal is a vibrant young woman who was married to Anthony, her sweetheart of seven years this past July. Just weeks before Crystal’s wedding day, doctor’s informed her she would not live to see her baby daughter celebrate her first birthday.

Shortly after giving birth, Crystal began to experience back pain which doctors diagnosed as post-partum back issues. On July 8, 2007, Crystal was taken to the hospital because the pain had become unbearable. There, she received the news that changed her life:  malignant melanoma tumors had overtaken her spine, hips and pelvic region, as well as her liver, lungs and bones.

Due to the circumstances, a baby shower has not been at the forefront of the new mother’s mind as she struggles to take care of her baby and manage her ailing health. Her husband is committed to caring for his family and has left his job to devote his time to do so. However friends and family want to see Crystal and Mattea celebrate life together and have entered the family into a local radio contest for which the prize is a $50,000 baby shower. Some of the gifts will include baby furniture, a $5000 Resgistered Education Saving Plan (RESP) in Mattea’s name, over $5000 in grocery gift cards, cleaning services for a year and a year of diaper service.
