Yesterday was World Rivers Day

... and a Happy belated World Rivers Day to you!

World Rivers Day actually started in 1980 as 'B.C. Rivers Day' by founder Mark Angelo who used the day to cleanup the Thompson River in British Columbia.  Three years ago the UN approached Angelo about taking the B.C. model global and now World Rivers Day is celebrated in 35 countries, raising awareness about our planet's critical waterways.

This year Mark Angelo began a special program to help local salmon bypass a major dam spillway which kills 80% of the fish that pass through it.  Hit the jump for the full story.
