Carey Haas began making organic dog food when she was nursing her own dog back to health years ago. Today Carey runs a successful doggie bakery that specializes in organic treats. Here she shares her simple recipe for Organic Carob Pup Truffles.
Ingredients:
• 12 ounces carob chips (Haas uses Sunspire Vegan brand — available at Wild Oats. Never use chocolate, which is toxic to dogs).
• One cup organic peanut butter (creamy works best), thoroughly stirred.
• One cup of organic rolled oats, finely ground in food processor
Directions:
1. Melt carob chips slowly, over double boiler. Stir constantly. Remove from heat and add peanut butter and one-third of the oats.
2. Let cool until you can form ingredients into small, uniform-size balls.
3. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate (Haas says they stay fresh for several weeks).
4. When ready to serve, allow truffles to come to room temperature and then roll in oats.
