The largest irrigated crop in the world isn't a food source at all. It's grass!
That's right, Americans spend billions of dollars a year on equipment and chemicals to maintain their patches of lawn. This article has some great advice to go green and save money by converting your lawn to native plants.
They argue that native plant have had throusands of years to evolve to the microclimate of your area. They are more resilient to the local weather conditions such as drought, and require less maintenance overall.
