In June of this year Toyota announced the sale of its 1 millionth hybrid in the United States. Ford's sales numbers are kept hush-hush and General Motors can only claim a few concept designs. Toyota, Nissan and Honda have left America's big three automakers in the dust in terms of first-generation hybrid passenger vehicles. The big question now is: can the American car companies catch-up?
